Our Maine

Maine's state slogan is "Maine, the way life should be."  And as Liz said, the way life should be is less about Maine and more about Nancy.  Nancy and her posse of Amy and Sarah made every single second of vacation perfect.  We were pampered the entire time we were there.  We stay in Northeast Harbor, Maine which is on Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park.  I am embarassed to say we didn't step foot inside the park this year.  We mainly ate, hung out on our back deck that looked into the harbor, yacht watched, and shopped.  We were a very short stroll away from a coffee shop so I drank at least two decaf, ice coffees a day, with cream.  Now if that's not the way life should be I don't know what is.  Mom and I would walk the one minute walk into town with Edie each morning during which I would pick an small apple from the apple tree that was growing over the sidewalk for Edie to gnaw on. We would get our coffee and share pastries with Edie.  Imagine beginning each morning like that.  Walking to our neighborhood gas station in Dallas to get breakfast burritos (while excellent) is just not the same, especially in 100 degree heat.  One day after coffee and pastries we took Edie down to the harbor to crawl around as the sailors loaded up their dingies with food, beer, and wine before a day of sailing or yachting.

Edie was a dream on the four flights coming and going.  She slept the entire way back to Dallas from Philly, about 3 hours.  She is so happy and up for anything as long as you have the supplies to keep her entertained.  This would be her board books, various things to chew on, and a bag full of stuff for her to pull out and throw on the floor, food, bottles, and lots of energy.

Layover in Philly.

We spent a whole lot of time on our back porch.  At first we were slightly obsessed with watching the yachts and waiting to see some scandalous parties but the yacht owners turned out to be really boring.  It's so nice to sit outside in the summer without mosquitoes and sweltering heat.

Nancy got a little out of control with the gin and tonics.

On the go, on the porch.

Sarah had to cover up while outside in the afternoon.  Only in Maine!!

  1. No mosquitoes? I got the 2 biggest mosquito bites I've ever had in my life when I was in Maine.
